Personalizing Your Wedding Beyond Flowers and Decor

Choosing a colour palette, favourite floral ingredients, and food that gets you excited is a good start, but a wedding day can be so much more personalized than that.

When I think about personalizing a couple's wedding day, I like to take a minimalist approach first and consider everything we already need that we can add an unexpected personal touch to.

For stationery, create a custom wax seal stamp or postage. On signage, include a logo or some fun language, like your nicknames or favourite song lyrics. Think about decor that ties in your wedding theme or your story like how you met, when you fell in love, or your favourite things to experience together. It doesn’t necessarily need to be expensive. It needs to be thoughtful.

Caitlyn and Brian came to us wanting a summer camp destination experience for their guests. Aside from a cheerful colour palette of sunshine yellow, light blue, scarlet red, hunter green and beige, and some key whimsical decor choices, here are some ways we worked with them to personalize their lake-side destination wedding in Northwestern Ontario's Sunset Country with images captured by Gina Brandt.

BRANDING

The location was dubbed Camp Cuddy for the weekend and a logo was designed by a friend. We used the Camp Cuddy identification and its logo throughout the stationery, website and signage.

LOGO WAX SEAL

The Camp Cuddy reference made its first appearance on the guest invitations with the website address to RSVP and a bright red wax seal Camp Cuddy logo. A hand illustrated map showed guests how to get there.

FUN CAMP SIGNAGE

Just like what you would find at a summer camp, we used chalkboards, wood planks, clipboards and bulletin boards to welcome guests and keep them informed.

One of my favourite details was the Food Hall seating assignment with the hand painted "No Food Fights" reminder. The table cards represented the wedding’s full colour palette. Table numbers were stiffened felt pennant flags in the Camp Cuddy font.

The camp logo on canvas banner at the dessert table is an adorable keepsake. A friend of the couple hand painted little wooden cake toppers in the couple’s resemblance.

GUESTBOOK EXPERIENCE

Guests took a polaroid, wrote a message to the couple, sealed it in a (vintage) stamped envelope and mailed their letter from camp in a vintage style mailbox, along with any other cards they had. I love the colourful floral accent Stone House Creative designed here. An endearing little spin on the popular polaroid guestbook.

FUNCTIONAL DECOR

Campers (guests) took home custom stamped enamelware campfire mug memorabilia, which doubled as their seating place card that Kind Regards Calligraphy made.

Baby blue bandanas served as a napkin or costume prop depending on who you talked to, and served as another fun and memorable take away.
